If you follow me on Instagram you’re probably aware of my infatuation for matcha tea. Matcha is a powdered Japanese green tea that makes part of the traditional Japanese tea ceremony, which is a spiritual experience that embodies harmony, respect, purity and tranquility. What’s more, it has powerful health benefits and an amazing taste.
Being a powder tea, you are actually consuming the whole leaf, rather than just an infusion. It has become my morning ritual, much like coffee is for most people. I carefully scoop out the vibrant green powder (trust me, it’s really green) from its tiny container into a mug, add in hot water and stir. Remember to allow boiling water to cool or your matcha will taste bitter though.
You can either have it hot, with lemon and/or ginger, or ice cold as I did throughout this summer. I’ve been enjoying my hot matcha lately as Autumn approaches. You can also make matcha lattes by adding in your favourite plant-based milk or even add the powder to fruit juices for that extra zing.
I absolutely love sipping this great tea, it gives me an energy boost and focus whilst providing a moment of relaxation. Just the best way to kick off your morning.
Enjoy your cuppa!
